Deep garnet-purple, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake gives up notes of baked blackberries, crème de cassis and blueberry pie with hints of Marmite toast, chocolate box, menthol and cigar box. Full-bodied, the richly fruited palate delivers mouth-filling black berry preserves and savory layers with a compelling backbone of freshness and velvety tannins, finishing on a lingering minty note.

2016 Barnett Vineyards Spring Mountain District Merlot | 92 points

A wine of real distinction, the 2016 Merlot is perfumed, savory and super-expressive. Mint, lavender, blueberry fruit, licorice and floral notes are all nicely woven together in this very pretty, gracious Merlot. Medium in body, fragrant and light on its feet, the 2016 has so much to offer. All the elements simply fall into place in a wine that conveys plenty of mountain character.

2016 Barnett Vineyards Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon | 92 points

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Spring Mountain District) packs quite a bit of punch, yet is also incredibly polished and sophisticated. Soft curves and silky tannins push forward a gorgeous core of dark red and purplish berry fruit, with pretty floral and spice overtones that develop over time. Open-knit and racy in the glass, the 2016 will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is an especially accessible young Spring Mountain Cabernet.

Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District Rattlesnake 2015 | 95 points

Hemingway would have liked this wine -- a wine stripped bare to its muscle. It’s made at the 2000-foot top of Spring Mountain on a 35 degree slope of solid rock that had to be jack hammered into (a bit of) submission. “Masculine” only begins to describe it. And yet for all the magnificent structure here, there’s also a hint of juiciness and minerality which will emerge more fully as the wine ages.
