2011 Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay
Carneros

Honeysuckle and Bosque Pear are immediate on the nose of the 2011 Sangiacomo Chardonnay. The nose also offers hints of white pepper, caramel, lily-perfume with some soapstone minerality. This Chardonnay has good viscosity, which becomes richer in time. More tropical notes of mango and pineapple are present on the palette. The residual Malic acid balances out the viscosity of this weighty wine. Bright with fruit in its youth this wine will develop nicely over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

 Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay ~ Anderson Valley
2011 Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay

The 2011 Savoy Chardonnay is more fragrant than in previous years. Rose perfume, white pepper and fresh lilies fill the glass. This moves to butterscotch and red apples. Lush and silky on the mid-palette flavors of full cream custard; flint minerality and lemon rind come through. Fresh acid balances the lush palette. Fresh honey lingers on the finish. It is a bright wine which will be best over the next few years peaking after 4-5 (2016-2017).

 Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay ~ Carneros

Carneros

The 2012 vintage of Sangiacomo Chardonnay has the typical bosque pear of other years, in addition buttered pecans, honeycomb, and lilies are present on the nose. There is a wonderful silkiness to the palette followed by flavors of passion fruit and papaya. Other flavors of pear and flint follow on the finish. There is some very good acidity here to balance the viscosity. The wine is wonderful in its youth and should age nicely over the next 4-5 years (2017-2018).

 Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay ~ Anderson Valley
2012 Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay

This riper vintage of Savoy Chardonnay brings out some big pear, red apple and blooming tulips on the nose.  Lemon custard, white pepper and soapstone minerality are also present. The palette begins with a soft lushness, and continues with flavors of caramel apple, cinnamon toast and limeade. There is some very firm acidity on this wine, which lends itself to age. Bright and fresher in its youth, it will develop some wonderful elements over the next 5-6 years (2018-2019).

2013 Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir

Cherry blossom and rosewater perfume immediately abound from the glass on the 2011 Savoy Pinot Noir. Beautiful graphite, licorice and white pepper spice are also apparent. A velvety mouthfeel leads straight into flavors of raspberry, cranberry tart and cocoa. The soft to medium tannin is almost pushed over by crisp firm acidity. This wonderful wine will hold extremely well over the next 6-7 years (2018-2019).

The 2011 Donnelly Creek is more of a deeper richer style of Pinot. Black cherry, boysenberry and pomegranate dominate the primary aromatics, while dusty cinnamon and cedar are more apparent afterwards. This is the richest Donnelly Creek yet. Similar fruit from the nose comes out on the pallet, but more spice (mostly ground pepper) is much stronger here. Very firm tannins are balanced by the acidity. This full rich wine will hold nicely over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

 Donnelly Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir ~ Anderson Valley

This vintage of Donnelly Creek is extremely concentrated. Its dark color foreshadows the nose, full of black raspberries, boysenberry tart with a peppercorn spice. There is also cooking chocolate and a pretty tobacco element. With a very plush mouthfeel the palette explodes with dark berry fruit. There are considerable tannins this year, but they’re matched with very firm acidity. This hefty Pinot will hold nicely over the next 8-9 years (2021-2022)

 Spring Mountain Merlot ~ Spring Mountain District

With a deep purple core the 2010 Merlot is deceptively bright in its youth. Fragrant raspberry and soft white pepper spice are balanced with sweet vanilla and deep fennel. After a few swirls of the glass black cherry and blueberry tart aromas emerge with some subtle gravel minerality. This year the mouthfeel is silky and lush with more of the same range of fruit as the nose, but with a larger degree of minerality. The tannins are moderately chalky without being overbearing. The wine finishes with dark cocoa and riper raspberry. This wonderful wine will age beautifully over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

 Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir ~ Green Valley of the Russian River

Green Valley of the Russian River

Fresh bing cherries, ripe blueberries and pencil lead define the first aromatics off the 2011 Tina Marie. More floral (violets) and perfume aromas begin to emerge with a peppery spiciness in the background. On the velvety palette juicy pomegranate emerges. White chocolate, licorice and cinnamon is also apparent. There is some fresh acidity on this wine, with slightly softer tannins, suggesting more youthful drinking. The wine should develop nicely over the next 4-5 years (2016-2017).

Dark purple in its youth the 2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet has an immediate core of pure black fruit, mostly Cassis and Blackberry. Full fennel/black licorice and crushed violets are also prevalent. The dark mountain earth minerality is balanced by sweet vanilla bean aromatics from the oak. The wine is quite plush with concentrated raspberry and more gravel mineral tones on the palette. The tannins this year are very firm, with natural mountain acid to balance demanding some time in the bottle to show its best.

Green Valley of the Russian River

Beautiful deep ruby in color the 2012 Tina Marie is extremely fragrant. Fresh raspberries and dusty cocoa fill the glass. Blueberry pie, pomegranate concentrate and violets are just as present. The palette is super velvety with more pomegranate and raspberries. There is a touch of minerality on the palette, mainly gravel. Firm tannins, for Pinot Noir, are present, and are balanced with some crisp acidity. This wine will develop beautifully over the next 6-7 years (2019-2020).

 Merlot ~ Spring Mountain District

Spring Mountain District

The wine has a deep purple core and medium purple rim. Ripe pomegranate and dark cherry are immediate on the nose, followed by granite, earl gray tea spice and crushed violets. The palate is full in body, typical to form for quality merlot.  Graphite minerality and earth are prevalent on the mid palate but not as intense as the black cherry, licorice and pepper. The finish is very persistent, with lingering coffee and black cherry. The wine is beautiful now with big food, but will age nicely over the next 7-8 years (2009-2016).

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon 'Cyrus Ryan'

The wine exhibits a beautiful purple core and medium ruby rim with intense dark currant, black cherry and raspberry black olive on the nose. In addition, there is deep graphite minerality as well as cooking chocolate. Upon tasting the body is full and viscous, and the deep dark chocolate becomes really apparent. This is matched by blackberry and pencil lead. The chalky tannins are tighter than the 2005; the wine all around is firmer, with a long wild berry finish. The structure of this wine will demand a minimum of 3 years aging but should continue to age gracefully over the next 10-12 years.

This dark ruby Pinot is layered in complexity. Fresh concentrated black cherry is matched by red currant. Jasmine, cinnamon, vanilla and licorice complement the fruit. Soft lushness starts the palette off; continuing is more vivacious red fruit as well as pepper spice and pencil lead. The tannins are structured this year, with moderate acid. This complex wine will only develop more layers over the next 7-8 years (2020-2021)

This opaque deep purple wine has immediate cassis on the nose, with large amounts of graphite, and ground pepper. Deep cooking chocolate, black licorice and vanilla bean tones are also prevalent.  The palette is rich with big black currant, more pepper and vanilla as well as the classic spring mountain black earth. The tannins are firm and chalky with crisp mountain acidity to balance. More cassis and chocolate linger on the long finish. The wine is very young and time will be needed to while the wine develops beautifully over the next 12-15 years.

This opaque wine currently shows crushed violets, cocoa nibs and mixed black cooking spices. Some of the subtle minerality is only beginning to show. The palate is very plush and darker small berry fruit carries through here. Very firm chalky tannins begin to build on the palate, which is backed by firm acid. The 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot bring extra levels of complexity to this wine. This is a deeper and firmer Cabernet than in previous years, a true classic mountain wine that will take time to show its best, 11-13 years (2024-2026).
