 Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay ~ Carneros
2011 Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay
Carneros

Honeysuckle and Bosque Pear are immediate on the nose of the 2011 Sangiacomo Chardonnay. The nose also offers hints of white pepper, caramel, lily-perfume with some soapstone minerality. This Chardonnay has good viscosity, which becomes richer in time. More tropical notes of mango and pineapple are present on the palette. The residual Malic acid balances out the viscosity of this weighty wine. Bright with fruit in its youth this wine will develop nicely over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay ~ Anderson Valley
2011 Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay
Anderson Valley

The 2011 Savoy Chardonnay is more fragrant than in previous years. Rose perfume, white pepper and fresh lilies fill the glass. This moves to butterscotch and red apples. Lush and silky on the mid-palette flavors of full cream custard; flint minerality and lemon rind come through. Fresh acid balances the lush palette. Fresh honey lingers on the finish. It is a bright wine which will be best over the next few years peaking after 4-5 (2016-2017).

Donnelly Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir ~ Anderson Valley
2011 Donnelly Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir
Anderson Valley

The 2011 Donnelly Creek is more of a deeper richer style of Pinot. Black cherry, boysenberry and pomegranate dominate the primary aromatics, while dusty cinnamon and cedar are more apparent afterwards. This is the richest Donnelly Creek yet. Similar fruit from the nose comes out on the pallet, but more spice (mostly ground pepper) is much stronger here. Very firm tannins are balanced by the acidity. This full rich wine will hold nicely over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir ~ Green Valley of the Russian River
2011 Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir
Green Valley of the Russian River

Fresh bing cherries, ripe blueberries and pencil lead define the first aromatics off the 2011 Tina Marie. More floral (violets) and perfume aromas begin to emerge with a peppery spiciness in the background. On the velvety palette juicy pomegranate emerges. White chocolate, licorice and cinnamon is also apparent. There is some fresh acidity on this wine, with slightly softer tannins, suggesting more youthful drinking. The wine should develop nicely over the next 4-5 years (2016-2017).

Spring Mountain Merlot ~ Spring Mountain District
2011 Spring Mountain Merlot
Spring Mountain District

With a deep purple core the 2011 Merlot is deceptively bright in its youth. Fragrant raspberry and soft white pepper spice are balanced with sweet vanilla and deep fennel. After a few swirls of the glass black cherry and blueberry tart aromas emerge with some subtle gravel minerality. This year the mouthfeel is silky and lush with more of the same range of fruit as the nose, but with a larger degree of minerality. The tannins are moderately chalky without being overbearing. The wine finishes with dark cocoa and riper raspberry. This wonderful wine will age beautifully over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Spring Mountain District
2011 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Spring Mountain District

This opaque wine currently shows crushed violets, cocoa nibs and mixed black cooking spices. Some of the subtle minerality is only beginning to show. The palate is very plush and darker small berry fruit carries through here. Very firm chalky tannins begin to build on the palate, which is backed by firm acid. The 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot bring extra levels of complexity to this wine. This is a deeper and firmer Cabernet than in previous years, a true classic mountain wine that will take time to show its best, 11-13 years (2024-2026).

Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Spring Mountain District
2011 Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Spring Mountain District

Intensely dark purple in color this vintage the wine is big and very concentrated. Aromas of raspberries and vanilla bean are complemented by dark chocolate and licorice. Layers of allspice, clove and cassis are also apparent. Upon tasting the wine is very viscous with darker fruit flavors to match the vanilla and pure black peppercorn emerges. The tannins are quite firm with great acidity to back it up. Although some bottle bouquet will begin to develop after ten years this is an ager, for those with patience this wine will progress gracefully for the next 20 years (2033).
