Spring Mountain Merlot ~ Spring Mountain District
2010 Spring Mountain Merlot
Spring Mountain District

With a deep purple core the 2010 Merlot is deceptively bright in its youth. Fragrant raspberry and soft white pepper spice are balanced with sweet vanilla and deep fennel. After a few swirls of the glass black cherry and blueberry tart aromas emerge with some subtle gravel minerality. This year the mouthfeel is silky and lush with more of the same range of fruit as the nose, but with a larger degree of minerality. The tannins are moderately chalky without being overbearing. The wine finishes with dark cocoa and riper raspberry. This wonderful wine will age beautifully over the next 7-8 years (2019-2020).

Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Spring Mountain District
2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Spring Mountain District

Dark purple in its youth the 2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet has an immediate core of pure black fruit, mostly Cassis and Blackberry. Full fennel/black licorice and crushed violets are also prevalent. The dark mountain earth minerality is balanced by sweet vanilla bean aromatics from the oak. The wine is quite plush with concentrated raspberry and more gravel mineral tones on the palette. The tannins this year are very firm, with natural mountain acid to balance demanding some time in the bottle to show its best.

Cyrus Ryan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Napa Valley
2010 Cyrus Ryan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley

With its deep purple core this wine is immediately bursting with Blackberry and blueberry tart. Sweet vanilla spice and cinnamon toast are balanced by the subtle graphite and crushed floral elements. This is an extremely lush wine with cherry compote and milk chocolate on the mid palette. The moderately chalky tannins are balanced by the restrained acidity. Although surprisingly appealing in its youth, this wine will benefit from 10-11 years of bottle age (2022-2023).

Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5L ~ Spring Mountain District
2010 Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5L
Spring Mountain District

Rich in color the 2010 Rattlesnake Hill is powerful and layered on the nose. Aromatics of fennel, black earth and black tea are wrapped in sweet dark chocolate, blackberry and concentrated vanilla. A whole kitchen cabinet of spices begins to emerge, chiefly nutmeg and cinnamon. The mouthfeel is silky and opulent. On the palette concentrated cassis gives way to cedar and graphite while the chalky tannins begin to emerge. Black fruit and cocoa linger on the finish for a long time. This vintage will show wonderfully after 15-16 years (2027-2028), but will hold much longer for those with patience.
