Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir ~ Russian River Valley
2008 Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

The nose of the 2008 is filled with spicy cherry and white pepper. Floral aromas surround the asian spice characteristic common in our Tina Marie pinot. The wine is lush and the mid pallet continues with fresh cherry and anise, with slight granite minerality. The tannins are softer than in previous years, and a vibrant spine of acidity runs through the wine.  The wine is soft and elegant in its youth, but the spice and mineral complexity will become more apparent over the next 5-6 years (2010-2016).

 Merlot ~ Spring Mountain District
2008 Merlot
Spring Mountain District

The wine has a deep purple core and medium purple rim. Ripe pomegranate and dark cherry are immediate on the nose, followed by granite, earl gray tea spice and crushed violets. The palate is full in body, typical to form for quality merlot.  Graphite minerality and earth are prevalent on the mid palate but not as intense as the black cherry, licorice and pepper. The finish is very persistent, with lingering coffee and black cherry. The wine is beautiful now with big food, but will age nicely over the next 7-8 years (2009-2016).

2008 Viento Valle Pinot Noir
Anderson Valley

Pomegranate and white pepper soar out of the glass, with rhubarb pie and a dusty earth minerality following behind. The wine has generous viscosity with full-blown cherry and brown sugar on the mid-palette.  The soft tannins and bright acid suggest that the wine will hold nicely over the next 4-6 years (2010-2016).

Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Spring Mountain District
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
Spring Mountain District

This beautiful Cabernet greets you immediately with a deep purple core. The nose is very lifted with sweet flowers, ripe raspberry, ground pepper and black licorice.  Classic Spring Mountain minerality is also apparent, with wet stone and graphite in the background.  The wine has a decent viscosity to it, with brighter black cherry fruit, vanilla bean and crushed flowers coming though on the pallet. The tannins are well integrated but youthful, and the natural Spring Mountain acidity is well balanced with the rest of the wine. This is one to hold, since the wine will come together nicely over the next 9-12 years (2019-2022).

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon 'Cyrus Ryan'
Napa Valley

This is the darkest the Cyrus Ryan has ever been; opaque in the core it has immediate intensity of black fruit on the nose. Blackberry and cassis are in the very forefront with immense cocoa nib and toasty vanillin right behind. Mineral elements are not lacking either, with scorched earth and gravel behind the fruit. The 2008 is not lacking any richness, and all the fruit and mineral elements on the nose continue on the pallet. Very big chalky tannins are on the mid pallet asking the wine to age. Drinkable with hearty fare, this wine really needs time in the bottle to be all it can be. Drink over the next 18-20 years (2011-2031).

Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Spring Mountain District
2008 Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Spring Mountain District

The wine exhibits a deep purple core and rim. Black raspberry and cherry spice concentrate come off the nose immediately followed by big black pepper spice, cocoa nib and graphite.  As the wine sits in the glass innumerable fragrances evolve. The wine is ultra plush on entry; where the youth of the wine is evident from the full chalky tannins and beautifully balanced acid. Deeper darker fruit, ripe blackberry, emerges on the mid-palette as well as fennel and rich chocolate.  This is an example of a classic year atop Spring Mountain; the wine will age gracefully over the next 17-20 years (2027-2030).
