Hal Barnett, a 5th generation Californian, was born in 1948. Hal grew up in Stockton, California and lived there for thirty years. In the late 1970's he moved to San Francisco. Hal attended Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in business.
From the mid 1970's until the late 1990's Hal owned and operated a residential real estate development and building concern. Initially the building business was headquarted in Stockton, and then eventually moved to San Francisco.
In the early 80's Hal met Fiona, and in late 1983 they acquired the 40-acre property now known as Barnett Vineyards. The property was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in 1984, and the first small vintage was harvested in 1989. In 1986 Hal and Fiona began construction on the house that was eventually to become their full time residence on the property. Since 1991 Hal, Fiona and their three daughters have lived full time on the property. In the late 1990s Hal ceased developing real estate and joined Fiona working full time building Barnett Vineyards.
Hal's main hobbies are exploring Whitewater Rivers in the western United Sates and fly fishing for trout and steelhead.
