Fiona Barnett was born in Weymouth, England where she spent the first 6 months of her life. Her family then moved to Mexico City where they lived for 5 years. She spent the remainder of her childhood and school years in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Fiona graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1981 with a degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Economics.
In the early 80's she met her future husband Hal and moved to San Francisco. She worked for a small certified public accounting firm for a few years and obtained her Certified Public Accountant's license. She and Hal both enjoyed visiting the Napa Valley on the weekends and fell in love with the area. In 1983 they purchased the 40-acre property located at the top of Spring Mountain Road in the town of St. Helena. In 1984 they cleared and planted their first Cabernet vineyards.
During the next 9 years they commuted between San Francisco and their property in St. Helena. During this time Fiona obtained her Master's Degree in Finance from Golden Gate University and also received her real estate broker's license. The first harvest was 1989, which produced 232 cases of Cabernet. Fiona was in charge of managing the business while Hal continued with his real estate development business. The wine business grew as Barnett Vineyards expanded their operations by purchasing fruit from other vineyards. Over the years the business has grown extremely well and now the production is approximately 5,000 cases per year. Barnett wines are distributed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, South Korea, Japan and the Caribbean.
Fiona's hobbies include skiing, tennis, swimming, river rafting and traveling. She and her husband, Hal, now reside fulltime on the property in St. Helena and raise their 3 daughters.
